Overview

Pakistan,  officially the Islamic Republic of Pakistan is a sovereign country in South Asia. With a population exceeding 180 million people, it is the sixth most populous country in the world.

Estimated adult (aged 15-49) HIV prevalence, (%) in 2009 was 0.1 and the estimated number of people (all ages) living with HIV, was estimated to be 98,000

Momentum for Integration Project

This project is co-ordinated by Family Planning Association of Pakistan (RAHNUMA) and South Asia Regional Office (SARO) – International Planned Parenthood Federation.

Key Achievements

  • RAHNUMA-Family Planning Association of Pakistan formed a 10 member Country Team representing CCM, CSOs, Youth, social activist and National AIDS Control Program to extend technical guidance in project implementation. The Country team has been instrumental in organizing the National Consultation on SRH HIV Integration with the objective to mainstream the professional views of the other specialized experts from government, national and international development organizations working in Pakistan on general health, Sexual & Reproductive Health, HIV/AIDS and Family Planning. The meeting was attended by representatives from WHO, UNFPA- Pakistan, Global Fund Principal Recipients UNAIDS, Rutgers WPF, officials of Provincial AIDS Control Programs.
  • Under the Technical Hub initiative, 7 consultants were hired with expertise on SRH, HIV, Proposal writing, Global Fund functions and Financial management. These consultants facilitated meetings and workshops within the Civil Society Organizations (CSO) and played important role in providing inputs to  the Country Team meetings to promote the agenda of integration.
  • RAHNUMA- FPAP has been actively liasioning with different stakeholders including country representatives of international agencies like UNFPA, European Union, UNAIDS, USAID and National AIDS Control Program as well as province level reproductive health departments and Parliamentarians. The aim is to influence and increase commitments towards integrated services and policy level linkages.
